BIO: Mirjana is co-founder of the first testing community in Serbia, called Test’RS Club (testrs.club). After gaining diverse experience in testing she concluded that she needs to give it back to the community, so she started one as a platform for sharing knowledge. During the day she is a Test Architect and Department Manager at Levi Nine. But above all, she is passionate and highly motivated software tester who loves getting her hands dirty with actual testing and leads by example, promoting appropriate testing skills and techniques for 10 years, and counting.
Presentation: Facing the uncertainty by Monitoring Production
session level: intermediate
Have you ever wondered what happens to the code your team developed after it is deployed to the production? Is it a big unknown to you, or do you think you have a clue? I’m sorry to break your illusion, but even if you have idea, it is usually either completely wrong or there is much more than you can think of.
But, how do I know that? I hadn’t for a long time. Only after placing monitoring to our production environment I learned how much I didn’t know, and that my perception was miles away from the reality.
My daily job consists of monitoring our system in production and learning for it. In this talk I’ll explain what added value a tester brings up in monitoring system, and what they can learn by doing this. Some benefits include:
– oracles for our performance tests
– learning about system behaviour
– observing (potential) errors in the systems
– preventing bugs getting to users before we fix them
I’ll show you which tools we use at our projects, how we use them and what can we see by observing them all together, because one tool is never enough.
- Why do testers need to monitor performance of the system?
- What can a tester find out from those metrics and behaviours?
- Which tools can be helpful and how to combine them?
